日本を飛び出した理由とジンバブエからの声 No.1. Why I jump out from Japan? And the voice from Zimbabwe
私が日本を離れて海外で働きたいと思った理由の大きな一つが、日本に将来がないのではと言う漠然とした不安です。
三菱重工在籍時、為替はその当時1ドル=100円か90円ぐらいでした。
ところが、その為替ではビジネスとして割りに合わない。
また第二次産業が中国に取って代わられるなど、人件費の安い国に移る。
そうなっているなか、日本のいく末はどうなるのか。30年後、50年後、私が老後を迎えた時に安定した生活が送れるのか。
そういった数々の疑問が私を海外に駆り立てました。
私は船と言う職場を選んだのは人生の保険だと思っています。つまり、何か起こった時に自分が動けるための手段です。
言語はある地域・国で働くために必要不可欠なものの一つですが、日本が不況に見舞われた時に、日本でしか使われていない日本語しか話せないのは、自分の人生の選択肢が狭まるように思います。
実際船で働いているフィリピンの人は教師からハウスキーパーに転職していました。
それは例えハウスキーパーと言う仕事でもアメリカドルだと給料がいいからで、そこには「英語が話せたから」と言う条件がついています。
前置きが長くなりましたが、そういう経緯で船にいるとジンバブエからの患者さんに伝えた時に、患者さんがジンバブエの状況を伝えてくれました。

One of the biggest reasons why I left Japan and want to work abroad is because I was afraid that Japan doesn't have future.
When I was in Mitsubishi heavy industry, exchange rate is about $1=between \90 and \100.
However, as the reality, we couldn't make any money with this rate.
Furthermore second industry is moved to China. It means we move the country that is cheap for labor cost.
When it happens, what happen to Japan?
After 30, 50 years later, or when I am retired, can I make stable life.
Many questions like this made me to go out from Japan.
My chose that I choose to work on the ship is the insurance to my life. It means this is the method, if something happen in my life, I can move from Japan easily.
Language is one of the essential items to work on certain region or nation.
When Japan faces economic crisis, if we could speak only Japanese which is used only in Japan, it would make our option less.
Actually one Filipino crew member changer the job from teacher to house keeper.
Even if he does house keeping which is more simple job than teacher, the salary is more than teacher in Philippine. Because he can get by U.S. Dollar.
But he needed one requirement. It is whether he can speak English or not.
Prepare was long, when I tell my story about the reason for working on the ship, one patient who is from Zimbabwe spoke me the situation of Zimbabwe.
